Diagnostics & Surgery

State of the art Diagnostics and Surgery

Ultrasound
Just as in humans, veterinarians use ultrasound to help diagnose problems in pets. Ultrasound Imaging is a medical diagnostic technique in which very high frequency sound is directed into the body. The tissue interfaces reflect the sound, and the resulting pattern of sound reflection is processed by a computer to produce a photograph or a moving image on a television. At Hillside Animal Hospital, our ultrasound helps us to reach accurate diagnoses easier and faster.

Laparoscopy

Our newest addition to Hillside Animal Hospital's surgical equipment, our laparoscope, allows us to perform minimally invasive surgery.  By using a laparoscope we are able to make 2 tiny incisions (about the size of a pen) to insert a camera and an operating instrument.  We can explore the whole abdominal cavity looking at the liver, spleen, kidneys, stomach, intestines, lymph nodes, and bladder.  We have already performed bladder stone removal, gastrointestinal surgery, and several spays with great results.  It is so great to see our patients jumping and running the day of the surgery.

Laser Surgery

Laser surgery is a great advance in veterinary surgery. The word "laser" is an acronym for Light Activation by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. The laser allows the veterinarian to perform surgery very accurately using concentrated light sources as a surgical tool. The advantages of using the laser include markedly less pain, less swelling, and faster surgery times. Since the laser never touches the tissue, there's much less tissue trauma. At Hillside Animal Hospital, we use the laser in procedures including spays and neuters, declaws, lump or tumor removals, eye and ear surgeries, and oral surgeries.

Advanced Surgical Procedures

In addition to routine surgeries, Dr. Rosonke has a special interest in fracture repair and surgeries involving the hips and knees. Dr. Rosonke attends continuing education seminars to learn the latest orthopedic surgical techniques, and Hillside Animal Hospital is equipped with the latest equipment to support these special procedures.

X-Ray

X-Ray is another imaging tool that helps the veterinarian diagnose problems. We have an X-Ray machine on site to help us diagnose and pinpoint conditions such as fractured bones accurately.

On-Site Lab

Since our pets can't tell us how they're feeling, we must rely on clinical tests to determine issues. We have an in-house laboratory where we can obtain results from various blood tests rapidly to assist us in diagnosing, treating, and monitoring many different health conditions.
